May Day 2025: AUPCTRE Members in full participation as Nigerian Workers celebrate workers’ day amidst economic hardship

As Nigeria marked Workers’ Day 2025 with the Theme: (Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship) alongside the global community, the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Services, Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE) reaffirms commitment to workers’ right and welfare by delivering a strong message of solidarity and resilience to its members.

While addressing hundreds of AUPCTRE members at the eagle’s square, The Union’s General Secretary, Comrade Sikiru Waheed, extended warmth greetings to members across the country, commending their unwavering dedication, hard work, and vital contributions to the Union and the nation at large.

AUPCTRE GS, Comrade Waheed described Workers’ Day as a symbolic occasion that reflects on the ongoing fight for improved workers’ welfare conditions while urging members to remain steadfast in their collective pursuit of justice, fairness, and better working conditions. He called on all the Union members to draw strength from the celebration and recommit to the shared ideals of unity and solidarity.

The message concluded with a renewed call for cohesion, stressing the importance of standing together in the drive to secure a more equitable and dignified working environment for all.

While addressing workers at the eagle square Abuja, leaders of the two major labour centers; Comrade Joe Ajaero (NLC president) and Comrade (Engr) Festus Osifor (president TUC) both called for review of workers tax system and timely upward review of current 70,000 naira minimum wage which has long become a slave wage due to subsidy removal and subsequent naira devaluation.

Other government officials present include; the minister of Labour (state), representing mr president, head of civil service to the federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack also represented the minister of FCT, Nyesom wike among others.

The labour unions across the nation demands wage review and improved working conditions to immediately ease the prevailing cost of living among workers.
